After looking & comparing many different different types of snorkels, I chose the one that fits a NJ-NH Pajero (1990) as it was the closest size & shape. I then took it to a plastics fabricator to have it bent a little more so as it matched the A Pillar better.
The snorkel was bent backwards (straightened at the elbow) to make a better fit/alignment with the A Pillar
The red is the original shape & the blue is the new shape that was required.

It was then fitted & here are the results.

As for the cost of the snorkel it wasn't cheap. But then again, compared to the cost of destroying your motor, (water injestion/hydro lock) which would be big $$$
Snorkel=$525
Tubing=$10
Bending=$242
Fitting=$220
TOTAL $997
But as I said it's a small price to pay if it comes to saving your motor from being destroyed.
The following pics are of the connections/plumbing etc re the fitting of the snorkel.

Well after 18mts of driving there still seems to be a little more power all through the range. As for consumption there seems to be very little difference. If any, it may be a touch better, since I've had the snorkel fitted, but as I said, the difference is that small it's not really worth worrying about.
One thing that i did do after fitting the snorkel was to reset the ECU aswell.

P.S. Admin my want to move this to a new/separate thread if you think it's approapriate.

Thanks guys, & mark my words, with the type of driving I do & the places I've been, it had been worth every $$ :biggrin:

If you try someone who sells hydraulic hoses they should be able to help you out. :)

I was lucky enough to find a place about 2mins from where I work. :)

For $242 i woulda been happy with it being a little off haha
I want a snorkel now, there are some on ebay for the same model pajero for $160ish.
Who did you get to install it? Panelbeater?

There is a little 4wd accessories place near to where I work, who both sell & fit nudge bars, bull bars & snorkels.
So I just took it there & they fitted it for me :)

Im looking at fitting a snorkel to my foz soon which is going to be sweet.

I was just wondering if you have any kind of drain in the system to let any water out that might get into the system if you say parked your car facing into a howling wind and pouring rain over night or something similar where there isn't a warm engine and lots of air flow to dry things out.

I know the air ram is supposed to remove water but im sure its not entirely effective...

Also do you have any kind of pre-filter for bugs and the like that may enter the snorkel or do you just end up with a pile of them sitting in front of the air filter?

Cheers

No mate I don't have either.

The top of the snorkel has a mesh of sorts that take care of most of the bugs etc.

As for water from entering from heavy rain, I just let the air ram do the job for me :iconwink:

If you are really concerned about this water entering, that is, being pushed or rammed in by driving rain, you can always just turn the top bit around.
Just as I do in very dusty conditions :cool:
