So after looking through the threads I could not find any that covered maps and reviews on GPS's. So I geocache a bunch. I also hike and backpack on a regular basis. The GPS I use is the Garmin etrex 20. It's small, very durable and can be dropped, a lot. I've used it in Texas heat, Kentucky humidity and Michigan winters. It has yet to fail me. Very simple interface, nothing fancy, like touchscreen or able to take pictures.

I also use this site for my downloadable maps. They are free, but I donate to help keep the site up and running. TOPO maps are available also, range 24K to 100k. The maps are easy to load onto Basecamp from Garmin.

I use 'gpsunderground.com' and 'noeman.org' for the very latest in CN, POI and TOPO.

Here is a look at the Australian maps I have on my eTrek 20:

Not the easiest GPS to use but at least the firmware is updating to 3.20 via web-updater!
