Hi everyone.

I have read that some people get slots put in their gearbox cover.

I can understand the reasons for doing this re a sump guard cover, but is there any reason for slots in a gearbox cover? Maybe it's just so it looks to match the sump guard assuming the sump guard has slots for ventilation?

Is ventilation still important for the gearbox cover? My Forester has a CVT but I am interested in general as I haven't seen any posts about this.

Yes, slots are needed in the sump guard to let hor air out but I don't think it's needed in a gearbox/transmission cover. I don't have any in mine

Looks good. I have seen other photos of the gearbox cover that are much smaller. I am guessing you think is worth getting the longer guard as you have?

I did mine to cover the entire gearbox & exhaust to protect against spinifex fires, a big problem on the Subaru Extreme trip last year. This isn't needed for normal offroad driving
