poorly made homemade bars.....yes I would be wary,
bars that come from another vehicle.. Not at all if you do your research and if possible find one thats nearly identical to one that would be made custom to fit your car,
But thats just me

I respect your right as an administrator to move comments to different threads if you see them as off topic. I disagree, however that my comment is off topic. The topic is front bumpers/bullbars. Safety and compliance is an integral part of the design process. Anyone embarking on a project to design or redesign a front bumper/bulbar needs to consider the possible consequences of those actions. Moving comments on compliance or safety to a different thread removes the context of the comment and it becomes useless.

You do realise the OP would have different laws in relation to modifications compared to the AU ones you talk about above?
They are quite lenient on modification laws in most parts of the US.
Therefore your advice, IMO would be off topic as our laws are not the same.

I do understand there is a significant difference between jurisdictions, particularly on an international basis. My comment included the phrase "if you live in Australia" because it was directed, not to the member who started the thread but to those from Australia who have indicated an interest in fabrication as a solution.

I've been tempted to go down this track myself for a front nudge bar for my SH as the ones on the market are either too ugly or too expensive but because it is the front bar, safety and compliance have to be a major consideration due to the risk of pedestrian impact and the timing of air bag deployment.

So then thatís why it became off topic mate, because you wanted to warn people in Aus but OP isnít from Aus so thereís another thread for that

I get it some people like to do everything by the book, however Iím not one of those people

The bullbar I have from a pajero will still kill a pedestrian the same way it will on my Forester I promise you

While the advice is appreciated it's best to keep these discussions in the right place as experience on this forum over many years, and indeed right now, shows how side-tracked a thread can become when compliance starts to be discussed. For example the original thread contains 9 posts; I just moved 10 posts here ;-)
