Yes, I follow the manual to run in the new engine. The only thing I probably couldn't do fully was 'not to remain at the same speed for long time' as I drive on the freeway to and from work most of the time.

That is the most important thing to do with a new engine. I once bought a new car in Queensland and drove it back to Sydney, about 1,000 kms. We varied speed, or maintained speed and dropped a gear. Won’t and didn’t stop the fuel tank from nearly falling off. The $1,000 glorified car wash known as a pre-delivery inspection is supposed to do that

No, it won’t cause a leak. More likely to burn oil.
