After 7yrs it was time for a change..

I cut the front bumper for more approach clearance as it was getting torn apart..

Next was the paint the gold cladding was getting pretty scratched up and I wanted something different.

Several cans of Plasticote flexible bumper paint (black).

Paint job looks good. Front angle of the bumper works well, perhaps a bit to do to resolve the sides.

The new rubber looks great. :)
I bet you love having a better approach angle too.

Nice setup. The paint job and bumper look great. How did you go cutting the bumper? What did you use to cut it and was the airintake sticking out when you cut the bumper and removed the wheel arch liner?

I cut the bumper with an airsaw(hacksaw blade).
I have a cold air intake so no problems there. I cut and tucked the fender liners up and sewed them with zipties out of the way. I also used mudflap meterail to cover wiring/airbag sensors from rocks/sticks..

That outback is SCREAMING OUT for a lift

You know you want to!

Cheers

Subaru did paint the the bumpers and side cladding on special models . My inspiration came in 2004 when I spotted "The Northface edtion" outback in all black....I drooled...

My tires are 215/75r15..

thats not right in ca we did not get that one we got a dark blue with dark gray cladding:(

hey was it easy to paint the bumpers black or did u buy them like that??

very nice, very similar to what i have planned with my '11. only thing is, how much does hacking up your bumper effect gas mileage? i only use my roof basket when camping, gas mileage is important to me.

mileage..

Mileage stayed about the same..but mine is alot different rig than yours. So given you have a completely different design altogether...It might change the aerodynamics abit..

You'd just have to try it and find out..
I think some one has done it on a later model ...

That's a sweet looking outback. All generations of outback (except maybe the latest) can look really cool when done up.
