Climate Control AUTO/OFF button faulty 2002 OB Limited

2002 Outback Limited 2.5L Auto,

The climate Control has randomly stopped working, within 3 days of buying it ! The buttons are within the circular temperature dial. At first the OFF button wouldn't work, which was no problem because touching any of the other buttons such as fan or re-circulate, would turn AUTO off. Now the AUTO button has stopped working a swell. Thus, it can't access the ECON setting for the A/C.

It seems to be a relatively common problem, as I have observed in older threads, for my model. However, I haven't been able to find a solution, can anybody help ?

Have you tried the simple thing of disconnecting the harness and then plugging it back in? I just read the 2003 FSM and it is a little useless in this aside from saying it is the controller.
