LEE Stop Filters for Long Exposures

Great pic, I see now how its blurred the ocean but kept the pier in sharp focus. Very nice
Basically the Lee 10 stop filter is like putting a welding goggle infront of your lens, it cuts the light entering your lens by 10 stops, which is basically about 1,000 times longer than the metered speed. There are great ND Calc aps that allow you to calculate the correct exposure, as you can't meter once you fit the filter.

They are mainly used for seascape and moving water and sky shots.

This shot is from flickr, showing how you can create interesting skies...

ND (neutral density) filters come in many variants, these can be helpful if you want to shoot at a wide aperture say f1.8 to get shallow depth of field on a bright day.

Cheers

Steve

^, ^^ & ^^^

Gorgeous shots there, folks.

I didn't realise that there was a sunrise ... , but I guess that logically, if it goes down, it must come up again at some stage when I'm not looking ...

Actually, technically, there isn't a sunrise or sunset, I suppose.
Like lots of things, it isn't what it seems ...
It's our planet that's doing the burn-outs, not our sun ... .

Long may it continue ...

Taken at the time of sunset, but there wasn't one thanks to storm clouds in the west. Facing east to Cathedral Rock, Sedona, AZ, USA

Sunset from last Sunday evening. Became more and more stunning as it progressed.

The work commute's a right pain most days, but then you remember why you put up with it...
