Wow, axles just cleared Swiss customs, going faster than I expected.

Is this SF an EJ20 or did they come with phase I EJ25 in EUDM? I know AUDM were NA 2.0 for a long time and USDM has always been 2.5 in foresters (we never saw NA EJ20s).

In EUDM we only got the EJ20 NA or Turbo for the SF.

The SG came with the EJ20 NA or Turbo or the EJ25 turbo.

Low range 1:1,45 only on the NA models.

aahh, so you're upgrading from NS EJ20 to NA EJ22.
That's my engine and its great! I long for the power and torque of a 2.5 (my wife has an 03 OBS with EJ251), but the reiabiity of the phase 1 EJ22 cannot be discounted!!!!! I have been rough with it, but keep it lubricated and did some resealing of cam, main bearing seals and valve covers a few years ago, but its a great engine... Arguably Subaru's best motor yet!!!

I'm looking forward to seeing the latest iteration of your "remodelling' of the forester!!

Yep, thus the reason I'm doing the EJ22 swap

From outside, it will always look normal, like "Kaiser Sose" in the film Usual Suspects, just a bit higher !

But the "inside" is

EJ22 inside

For the swap, I used the following EJ20 parts : the whole intake (manifold and injectors too), the crank pulley, the cams, the screw adjusted valves (hydraulic on the EJ22)…and it works perfectly !

Otherwise, all the fluids, the timing belt kit and water pump, accessory belts, oil filter, NGK spark plugs and all the seals are new.

Went for a short drive, it feels smoother, torquier at low rpm but not much more powerful. I'll go for a longer drive in the mountains and off road soon...

EJ20 cams in the 2.2 heads, or did you keep the 2.0 heads on the 2.2 short block (mini high compression motor?) ? Was it a phase 2 or phase 1 EJ22?

good job for the 'quick' and functional swap!!

Yes, EJ20 cams in the EJ22 heads (9,5 compression ratio VS 9,7 compression ratio for the EJ20)

And its a phase 2 EJ22 ('96)

I'll drive it like this for a while but will probably put the EJ22 fuel regulator for more pressure (more fuel)
