There is a possibility to have a 4,86 ring and pinion ratio for our Subarus
![]() Subarugears makes them reversed for the VW conversion but now makes non-reversed as well. To match these with a 4,44 rear differential, you have to find 1,1:1 transfer gears from an early SF5 turbo (other Subarus probably had these gears as well). Now the only concern is to know the diameter of the ring and see if it clears the low range, especially the 1,59:1

Here is the link :
https://fr-fr.facebook.com/Subarugea...2398721812113/ Seems to be 34/7 teeth on the ring and pinion and the ring doesn't seem too large, should probably fit the 1,59 low range without machining.

Do they make a matching drive gear set for optimal cruising revs etc?
I'd hate to go to the effort of fitting this ratio only to find I'd be cruising at 100 pulling 4,000rpm!! I wonder if they can make a custom pinion for the AWD locking centre boxes. I bet either option (above or custom) wouldn't be "cheap". Cheers Bennie

I haven't talked to Subarugears but Dedman, NachaLuva and Rally did. They might be able to give you the right answer or perhaps easier, contact Subarugears !
