Oziexplorer topo maps for NSW and VIC

OK - even with my (very) limited understanding of how all this works, I'm in! I know enough to understand not to look a gift horse in the mouth. From what I DO understand, all I need is a laptop, a USB GPS navigator, Oziexplorer and this DVD and I'll have access to quality detailed maps including 4WD tracks for all of Victoria and NSW. Is that right?

Anyway - if someone could please put me on the list I'd be grateful.

Cheers,
Skender

BTW - can you get car chargers for laptops ?? Is that a dumb question?

Skender,

Yep, can get car chargers.

You I and Djulpan are all in the same back yard, so we ought to be able to sort each other out.

Anyway you are on the list.

1/. Djulpan,
2/. Skender.

Yes you can, but a more universal option is to get an inverter. That way you have a 240V socket and a USB socket in your car that runs off the ciggie lighter. It means you don't have to buy a car charger for your mobile, MP3 player etc: just plug in the usual charger to the socket and off ya go.

It will work with most 240 v appliances, but some need a genuine sinewave inverter.

I got mine free when I bought a projecta advanced glass matting deep cycle jumpstart kit from Repco.

The nice thing is that I can charge the jumpstart kit off the ciggie lighter while I drive, and have my fridge plugged in to either it or the battery. Its a very cheap way to set up a dual battery system.

Also, inverters can be bought from Jaycar.

here's the jumpstarter:

sadly repco no longer stock them, and appear to have lead acid battery types instead of the advanced glass matting projecta one.

when I got mine from repco it came with one of these free!

there's a new heavy duty version too:

Projecta also do laptop chargers...

Is this still going?

I ask because I am thinking of getting OziExplorer Real Time Tracking Package (includes GPS). Currently priced at $379. is that a good idea, or is there a better way to get GPS with maps?

what sort of gps do you get? how does the "real time" work? got a link?

Hello All,

I've just joined the Forum and would love to get hold of some 25k/50k/100k SE QLD and NE NSW maps for OziExplorer. I've got 250K but would love to get some finer detail in my home area around Brisbane.

I've just installed a Chinavasion Street King X1 7" All-in-One GPS/DVD/Radio/CD/younameit player model no.CVGX-C51 into my MY-03 Forester.

The installation instructions were fantastic - thanks to Rob;

an alternative site for sanity check:
https://decibelcar.com/index.php/menuinstall/186.html

Wiring is dead easy - buy an ISO-Subaru adaptor harness from ebay or Auto stores:
https://cgi.ebay.com.au/Subaru-98-s...=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cb11a539c

There is only 1 wire on the unit that needs to be dealt with; Labelled "Handbrake" it needs to be grounded to enable the screen when in Video mode. Its upto you how much effort you want to expend on connecting this up.

For the GPS antenna, I drilled a hole upwards into the map case from between the vents to pass the SMA connector of the GPS antenna cable down through. Excess cable is coiled up in the map case and the GPS antenna sits on the dash under the dash mat - plenty of signal there. The TV antenna and Ipod cable were pushed through a slot leading to the glove compartment - no holes drilled there.

For those doing it the hard way the Foz Wiring loom information is at:
https://robshowto.blogspot.com/2006/03/pin-out-for-my-03-subaru-forester.html
or for more detail:
https://ae64.com/Forester-pinout.htm

note the https://ae64.com/ website has lots of Subaru radio information.

I have successfully installed OziExplorerCE onto the unit and it works beautifully in moving map mode. I have captured some google maps for use with OziCE. This is great for city and "known" country, but hopeless for "out there". I have 250K maps but they lack detail when planning a serious outing.

I hope this information is of use to some of you, I look forward to hooking up with folks as we trudge the road of happy destiny.

Cheers to all
J-P

Hi All, I am keen as to get my hands on this disc, trying to prepare for trips up at big ben and alot of the tracks are seasonally closed. I am going to be getting an 11" MacBook Air with SSD for durability and afix it to dash over the pocket with velcro as its light enough to be held on by that, and I have ordered a GPS mouse to connect to it. Running VMWare Fusion and Windows XP SP3 and Oziexplorer. Hoping to learn enough to enter competition in the high country with https://navrun.com.au/fixture.htm. But thats only going to be possible with decent mapping. I tried the torrent but it has no seeders.

Let me know if you can get me the disk. Will pass on to the next person.
