Good to see the detector pay for itself Another jewelry rescue complete.

A shovel and a sieve haha, do you actually know what gold does in water, silt sand etc, its a heavy metal and moves around continuously, what hits the water now in 5 minutes can be a few metres away.

Lucky you didnt drop the ring on the beach it could be a metre deep in 10 seconds on ly to resuface when the sea cut the sand down to bedrock.

I go out all the time, havent missed a weekend hunt in 10 months, my Garrett AT Pro more than paid for itself so i bought a top of the range coin and relic hunting machine, a Minelab CTX3030.

Heres some pics of some of my setup

Hi my04tone,

Great looking kit you have there. Kev has itchy feet to start hunting again, but this weekend is out... Have a working bee to help clean up some flood damage at a friends property. He also is keen to have a go at detecting.... So maybe we can have a hunt during our coffee break :-). Fairly keen actually to get on the road much more often, thoroughly enjoyed our getaway over Christmas, so did Scooby2 on her first real trip. Was very impressed with how she handled the dirt and towing. Solid as a rock :-). Hope you have good luck with you hunt this weekend!

Checkout the Miner's Den in Mitcham. They hire gear, and I suggest you do that before buying. They also run demo days, where you can go along and try out the gear in the field.

I am now using a minelab CTX3030 $2650 worth of machine but the AT Pro kills it in the value for money stakes.

Excellent my04tone! Will be keen to get out next weekend hunting thanks to your inspirational posts :-) .... had a great weekend helping some friends clean up after the floods. It's really great to see what can be achieved when a heap of people turn up and give a hand.

What do you do when you find something valuable like this...do you hand it in to the police? If not claimed within I think 3mths it becomes legally yours
