Great vids Rally. There are some great memories there :)

That was a serious "off" in the 2nd one when "Dicky" left the track in the '83 top 10 qualifier

The world's first Racecam- or live in car footage- was in 1979 in Peter Williamson's Toyota Silly Car at Bathurst. It was probably the most boring Bathurst of all time- highlighted by Williamson's Racecam, Brock's lap record on the last lap and if you look closely a road registered Volvo in totally standard road going trim save the roll cage and harness. Even has it's number plates still on it

The 2nd vid is wild! Man he was cruisin along doing great too :monkeydance:

Is this the early days of the V8 super car races? If so, i think i'll like it! It's like big muscle cars running rally, sweeeeeeeeeeeeet!

There are mixture of categories. The first one is an historic racing car- slightly modified production cars. The green Falcon is a Group C Touring car from 1983. The yellow Falcon is a V8 Supercar from 1995, The Red Sierra Cosworth is a Group A Touring Car from around 1989-1992, Brock's car is a V8 Supercar from 1993 and a Group A car from 1987- as is Seton's Skyline. The Celica and blue Falcon are both Group C touring cars.

I miss the days when Peter Williamson, Dick Johnson and Peter Brock spoke on camera as they were racing- does not happen anymore. Dick Johnson was amazing- he'd tell jokes on air as he raced. I don't know how he did that. Mind you, he went over to the US once and did a few NASCAR races. When Petty ran him off the track he called Petty a pr1ck on air! But that's Dick for you- you never die wondering what he thinks!

Wow, it sounds like he was a hoot to watch & listen to when he was racing...."ahhhhh, f***!" "i'm just waitin for these turkeys to let me out so i can 'avago at it!"

Here's a vid i found on him

Yeah, Dicky's dinky di true blue alright. While he's a self confessed ocker, he's no yobbo and I have been a fan of his since the day he hit the rock back in 1980. The amazing thing about Dick (and Larry Perkins was the same) was that he built his own cars, engines, gearboxes personally. For so many years he was a privately run team with little or no factory support yet he was so successful. Jack Brabham was the same. The only driver to ever win the World Drivers Championship in a car he designed himself. And as great as Senna, Schumacher, Prost, Hill, McLaren. Stewart, Fangio et al have been- none of them can say that. Nor will it ever happen again.

One of Dicks jokes was about a driver he was lapping at Bathurst. He said the driver's teeth were like the keys of a piano in an old pub. Some black, some white and some missing! Another was when he said poor old Robbie- the worst 5 years of his life were spent in grade 3! And he said all this as if he were driving down to the shops, not driving a racing car around a race track. Ah- those were the days!

Great vids once again guys :)

Fired up there a bit quick & just slipped off the road a little bit .....

There's more gunk on the road up here than there's on the kitchen table .....

Slippery as a butchers block up here .....

Yep, thats Dicky alright

Absolutley fantastic vids! Thanks for posting those up, i love the old races!
Such amazing driving i havent seen.

Here's some bike action I love. Here is Troy Corser winning the Superbike World Championship as Anthony Gobert beats Colin Edwards for the race. Gobert- brilliant talent, wasted by sheer stupidity. Colin Edwards- a winner on a Superbike- he failed to succeed on Grand Prix bikes. Love seeing the Aussie flag flying high too.

And some of the veryt best racing I have ever seen. Once a again, such a shame Gobert never achieved the results he could have

And the incredible Schwantz who was the last of the demon late brakers. Apparently, he would accelerate up to a corner and only brake when he saw God. Look at that bike squirming under brakes at 250+km/h.

I was a real fan of both of them. Schwantz because he always gave it all. Rainey was just brilliant. He's a bit like Rossi is now, in that even though he was not an Aussie, if an Aussie did not win, you wanted him to win. I could not believe at the time that accident that paralysed him. Still don't. What an incredible bloke to do what he did both before and after his accident. .
