Brought my Outback to the stealer for the routine (112500km) service but got a surprised call that there is a "upper sump leak" and need to be fixed - total bill of $2,800 (including the cost of the service). :shake:

The "upper sump leak" repair is taken care of as luckily I have extended warranty.

What actually is "upper sump leak"? I do not see any oil mark under the car (I do the in-between oil change myself) or on the ground. What signs and symptoms will an "upper sump leak" show? :poke:

The dealer said it is a 15 hrs job so I wont have my car back by Friday the earliest!

I presume a lower sump leak means there's a hole in it..

edit: Seriously though, perhaps this?

I was thinking about the same. I did ask for details but the stealer still uses the same term. Will ask for the report after the repair.

'upper sump leak' sounds like it needs a gasket...don't see how that's $2800 and 15hours work though. I mean I don't see how a new sump would be that much either...

Something ain't right

take it to a specialist like STechnic or Maximum Motorsport.

The last time I had my foz serviced at a dealer they said I had a leak , took it to Stechnic who said there was none. 80,000kms later Stechnic have proven to be correct.
I have never serviced at a dealer again

Upper sump leak. Where on earth did they get that description from.

Upper Kumbukta West!

The stealer showed me few pictures of some leaking parts when I went to them the other day - got it "fixed" under extended warranty.

Crawled under the car this morning and saw leaking oil still - booked the car in to be looked into again next Tuesday.:sad:

Starting to lose faith in Subaru - both of my Subarus have oil leak!

I’d be losing faith in the dealership

Me too

Just got the sTechnic guys to have a look at the car and they reckon the current leak is due to a splitted intake hose. They still reckon to bring it back to the dealer 1st as they had it witnh the problem initially.

Will see how it goes.

I've always thought that was pretty much par for the course with boxers, a tendancy to leak a bit after a while. :)

It used to be a golden rule with VWs that if you found one that wasn't leaking, you didn't get rid of it.

2014 is a bit young to be dribbling but. Mine didn't have any noticible leak until it was over 10 years old, now at 14 it's still not enough to warrant topping up between 5k services.

Going to get the seals done soon though.

I think in fact the leak in my outback started earlier (maybe 3 yrs old) but it stopped until last month.

My Forester had the head gasket done few years back and is now requiring roughly 1.5 litre top up between services.

My 99 Corolla still not showing any leak!

Wow. I don't know what else to say.
Did you run it in?

No need to run in . My 19 year old wrx doesn’t leak
