There are two questions.
"Will it fit?" - yes. "Will it work?" - you need to see if the TCU is compatible.

99 Forester S Looking to pickup a used 2001 L tranny and not exactly sure what might be different. The autowrecker when I asked said the cross over computer indicated 2001 No idea what changed in 2002 But obviously when the body style changed that would be a obvious clue.
