Diesels are coming to Aus.

Latest info I can find indicates we won't be getting the diesel for a long time yet.

Nick Senior announced at the launch of the Impreza sedan tonite that Subaru Australia will not in the short term launch any diesel boxer engines onto the australian market. Due to the price of diesel at the moment being around 30 cents dearer than unleaded, recouping the cost of the engine would take in general 3 to 5 years compared to a normal petrol version. Most customers turn over there vehicles in their studies every five years taking that shine off owning an oiler!

Shame really, I would be having a serious look if they where available. :(

That info is old and from back in 2008. Diesel prices have dropped to be around ULP now.
The News on the subaru.com.au site states
In November Subaru will also launch the six-speed manual Outback diesel.

Forester should be some time on 2010.

I emailed Subaru Aus about this about 9 months ago and they said Outback yes, Forester no definite timeframe. Given the popularity of the VW Tiguan I'm surprised they haven't fast tracked the Forester.
