I've had my MY11 Forester diesel about 6 months now and love it.
I'm making the move from Central Victoria back home up to Queensland, and want to go via Broken Hill, Noccundra, Longreach, The Lynd before finishing up in Atherton, FNQ. I'd really like to visit Cameron Corner while I'm in the general vicinity and am wondering what are the essentials for preparing my suby for the trip? I'll be travelling sometime between March and July so hopefully dry weather. I am imagining that Cameron Corner > Noccundra will be the most hairy point of the trip.
The title is a bit misleading, I'm not completely green. I have experience driving remotely and some off-road experience, but not the long distances I'm planning for this trip. I understand the water, food and first aid requirements but am most concerned about the mechanical side of things. I have very basic mechanical knowledge in that I can change a tyre, replace air filters etc. and perform a basic service.
Are a good set of all-terrain tyres suitable for this trip?
Will the scoop on my bonnet pose an issue with bulldust?
Will I need to get a snorkel fitted?
Is a sump guard necessary as far as keeping dust out of the engine bay?
Imagining I will have to get a bullbar fitted but am concerned about having to replace my suspension.
Suggested tools and spares to take along?
Sorry for the long read. Would appreciate any advice re: the above!
