That depends on the rims though doesn't it? Not tyres... Again needs to be taken into consideration.

215/70/R16 fits on my 2006 Forester XT (Second gen). Possibly the biggest you can go with no mods

Agreed, I have 225/70/R16 on my 2007 and they dir require a small amount of cosmetic surgery to avoid rubbing.

the tire size's provided here, particularly with the SF is that with standard SF struts? i wonder because it would be a mighty tight fit for the 215/75r15

Just test-fitted some half worn 215/70 16's on my SF (w/ SF shocks). One side barely fit, the other side barely didn't fit

I don't need to fit these particular wheels but just for giggles what is this spring perch mod that keeps getting mentioned?

^ use SG struts is one way. the spring perch gives more clearance.

Default 235/60R17, 4th Gen Outback

I had Cooper Discoverer AT3s mounted today on my 2013 Outback. They are pretty snug in the rear compared to the original 225/60R17 tires.

I'm sure they'll rub some when I get wild off road, but the stock tires already rubbed some when I did donuts.

The attached pictures show the rear wheel well clearance, the front wheel well clearance for the strut, and a profile shot. The wheels are new too: Drag DR-38.
