OneSixty's $500 SG Forester

retgw.png

Recently purchased a $500 SG Forester. This and the photos may raise a few questions so i'll answer them so you don't have to ask

Q: What is going to happen with the L-Series? A: Cleaning of the L-Series will be finished and then it will be sold.
Q: Why was it so cheap? A: The owner said the clutch wasn't working, now have found out it's just a missing clutch operating fork. Also won't run on it's own fuel and sounds like only 3 cylinders.
Q: Where is the airbox? A: The owner had taken the airbox off to inspect the clutch.

and it has been washed since the photos were taken

Lift kit has arrived! Will probably be installed tomorrow, if it is I will post pictures.
Sump guard should be coming soon after though as a nice street sign that has been run into by a car has been sitting in the same place on a fairly unused road for a while now which will be perfect for a sump guard, especially with whats written on it. ;)

Cool, waiting for the pics !

See, Rally, he is young....!

lift kit doesnt mean young or old. matters how you feel inside first and what you want. im old and i wanted lift kit too and tires. and other stuff too that subaru dont have.

Young, you first think lift kit and then protection....I know, I'm young

It's finnaly lifted! After having the driver side CV joint pull apart 2 times trying to get the strut in it is finally over... until CV boots need to be replaced. 2.5 inch front and 3 inch rear SubieLiftOz lift kit, ready for rims and tyres tomorrow!

How's the sump guard coming along?

Some people might be wondering why I haven't posted pictures of the $500 Foz with its new rims and tyres. I will explain why.
The day I expected to have the wheels on we relied the tyres would not fit without cutting and hammering so I decided to get different tyres as I didnt want to do that. Today the wheels were supposed to be put on (which will fit). The Forester which has had no issues other than the ones fixed when bought decided that it would drive to the tyre shop showing no issues but then not start when going onto the hoist in the shop. We then had to diagnose what the problem was in the carpark of the shop in the sun. After trying to find the problem for a while my Dad disconnected a fuel hose which projected fuel like a pressure cleaner. I then turned the key to the ON position to which no fuel came out of the fuel line. I then relied the fuel pump wasnt making noise like it usually does and with rusty fuel dripping out of the fuel filter the problem was clear. A guy from the tyre shop towed us home in his landcruiser and the Foz is currently sitting in the driveway waiting for another new fuel pump and probably another filter.

If you read all of this, well done! Sorry for writing a book but I like putting everything that happens to the car on here.

Thinking of giving the $500 Foz a new name, such as Fuely Foz

That's a blow. Keep pegging away and you'll get it right in the end. Don't worry about long posts. As long as they're interesting, long is good.

Look on the bright side, you weren't in the middle of nowhere when it happened and you got a free tow home. :)

Got off pretty lightly I reckon.

Need a like button for that lifted pic!!

And I think I’ve said it before... cheap cars are expensive (and fun learning)!

Cheers

Got it fixed today, wires to a connecting plug in the fuel tank to the fuel pump had corrosion which lead them to spark and melt the plug (no idea how the fuel tank didnt explode!) so replaced the plug with one spare off a wrecking Forester I got a while ago.

Bad news is the tyres I said would fit dont. I dont understand how people are people are putting 31", 33" and even 35" tyres on Foresters and I cant get 215/75/15 on one. The tyre is hitting on the the actually body/firewall of the car (image below) which I dont understand why it cant be hammered in after the crazy ideas the guy at the tyre shop had before.

My dad isn't helping much either by complaining every time something goes wrong and keeps saying I should get a "real" 4x4

What a shame! I like those rims though!

I'd say some are getting larger tyres to fit by using spacers.

Just remind your dad that you are far safer in a lifted Forester than a lifted Hilux. Too many young blokes around my area get killed or seriously injured when they roll them or spin on the mountain roads and come to grief.

Spacers will work until they start to put the tyre into the front or rear of the mud guard when turning.

Your issue could be the offset of those new rims. I’m guessing they’re not standard.

Forget about what your dad says. Mine’s been saying it for years. My brother got a patrol, it’s been out once. Expensive thing to say the least. So make the most of what you’ve got ;)

I hope you sort out this wheel issue. I always thought the lower spring seat on the strut was the tyre size limiter.

Cheers

The rim offset is 0 which means they poke out of the guard a bit, which with that logic should also mean the tyre should be further away from the car but that doesn't seem to be the case. The lower spring seat isn't a problem due to the offset of the rim.
