UHF CB with no antenna=big no no

A tip while I think of it. Don't use a CB without an antenna or with a damaged antenna.

On a recent extended trip an antenna snapped off at the ground independent base on one of the cars. The radio continued to be used until a replacement antenna was installed - radio no longer worked very well at all and had to be repaired.

Nowhere else in the user guide was it mentioned that this could be an issue, except on the very last page!
 
^ It says that all over the place in the manual for my Oricom UHF300.

Basically: "DO NOT CONNECT POWER TO THE UNIT UNTIL AN ANTENNA HAS BEEN CONNECTED"

Worthwhile to repeat the warning though.
 
It's not so much the turning it on that's the problem but transmitting without a dummy load or antenna has the potential to damage the transceiver very quickly
