"This forum requires that you wait 30 seconds..."

30 seconds in between searches is a long time, especially if you mistype your search query and just need to correct the spelling. SubaruForester.org is only 15 sec, and NASIOC is only 5.

I changed that setting from the default 30 seconds to 10. Hopefully that is a good compromise.

Yeah 10 sounds great. What is the reason for the search delay anyway? Is it an anti-spambot measure or something?

Yes that and searching can be very server CPU intensive and slow down the site.

You can actually can cache search result if you can customize server. That will make search response very quick although I am not familiar with phpbb. (I am working in web application development field.)
