The first photo was about a 2 second exposure, no flash. It was lit by 2 x tea lights. The backdrop is a sheet of white perspex stuff, I had a white piece of paper but forgot to use it - it would've cut down on the reflections.
The second pic was taken on a tripod BUT I've lost my remote shutter release, so there might be some movement of the camera. It's possibly slightly out of focus - I set up the shot with the lights on then turned them off for the photo. I did want the focal point to be the water and not the RH part of the spout.
The car shot was taken with the kit lens that came with the camera - it says "AF-S Nikkor 18-70mm 1:3.5-4.5G ED". Supposed to be an ok lens but not brilliant, from what I remember reading back in 2005 when I bought the camera.
As for the other info, the EXIF data says:
Exposure: 0.005 s
f-stop: f/7.1
It's possible I had it on auto because I took a series of photos as the car came around the corner, from light into shadows into light again and I didn't have time to adjust the settings between each shot
I'm in two minds about whether to use a faster shutter speed setting or not - while it would freeze the car, you lose the sense of motion that you get in the shot I took. Some of the blur will also be from me panning and zooming at the same time.
