Default Brumby purchase with modification

Hi
New to site.
I would like feed back on a possible purchase?
I have found a 1989 Brumby with a L series RS EA 1.8 litre fuel injected turbo with the 5 speed and LSD to match.
I have been reading posts from other sites advising not to convert with the EA but an EJ.
What are the pitfalls with the EA engine?

Cheers

G'day mate,

Welcome to the forum.

The message of convert with EJ, not EA is that the EA82 requires about the same chassis modification to fit the engine, it has a tendency to leak oil from multiple places, can crack the heads between the valves (common but not detrimental to performance).

Also the amount of wiring required is about the same as it would be with the EJ20 conversion. The EJ20 turbo is a much stronger engine, "better bang for buck straight out of the box" performance wise.

If the conversion has been done well and it runs well there's no reason to be worried about it. The comments you've read are more about whether you'd do an EA82t conversion or an EJ20 turbo conversion. EJ20 turbo would win out these days - parts are far easier to get to start with.

Cheers

Bennie
