Hi everyone,
Just thought I'd pass on my recent experience. I went for a 4WD/camping trip recently and ever since I returned there was a decent grinding noise when I turned the wheel and accelerated (i.e. turning right across traffic from a stationary position was most noticeable). I think it mainly was a result of one hill I went up and kind of fell in the ruts... I googled everything I could and it seemed like a problem with a CV joint ... I couldn't see any obvious damage though, so I looked at other remedies but none seemed to do the job. We eventually worked it out though, and it was the best possible result. What had happened was I obviously gave my Subaextreme bash plate a good nudge, as it had deformed a little (barely noticeable though) and was sitting very close to the exhaust. So as I accelerated, the engine rumbles a little, and as I turn the engine moves around a little... so all that was happening was the exhaust/engine was vibrating/rubbing against the top of the bash plate. We sculpted out a small area for added clearance, and I also put in a washer to act as a spacer and there's been no problem ever since! |
