An American version of V8 Supercars would be amazing. Sick of NASCAR. I regularly watch V8 Supercars on Speed when I can. Isn't it similar (if not the same) as Touring Car Racing?

V8 Supercars developed from the Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC). But in doing so they are no longer based on the cars they look like- they are a silhouette formula similar to NASCAR- with a control floorplan, control suspension, engine, diff, gearbox, wheelbase, track, length, and so on. Engines are either Ford or Chev Aurora. Gearboxes are Holinger 6 speed sequential, diffs are Ford 9". It would be easier to say what the differences are- namely the body panels and glass, rear wing mounting- but not the blade or it's relative height and engine. So while they started out as touring cars, they are now closer to sports sedans

Huh. I'd rather have an American version of Touring Car racing then. Have the cars based on the platform of that car. Just like rally, modified versions of the factory cars. Either that, or hope that RallyCross racing starts to become big here (but I won't hold my breath).

Heard about this on the news the other day. Apparantly they took a former F1 driver and a red bull F1 car out to the new track to do a little playing around. I think they should turn it into a rally track until they get the thing paved!

That F1 car is at least a couple of years old I think going off the rear wing. Not sure if #31 was ever used either for a race number. Maybe someone more familiar with F1 can clarify

I don't think it was either. After looking at Red Bulls youtube channel, it's used for promotion videos. Right before this car came to Austin & did this along with a promo shoot in downtown Austin off Congress, in front of the capital, they did a shoot with Tom Cruise test driving the car at a track somewhere around California. It was quite funny when he lost control & spun out!

I've never thought much of Cruise as an actor- and he is certainly quite weird. But he seems to have some ability behind the wheel.

Red Bull just released the promotional video that they were filming in the above videos for the new F1 track. The ranch they start off at is actually out at McCombs Ranch in Johnson City - about 25 miles from here. Red McCombs, the owner, is in the top 100 richest people in the world. He owns a pretty large Auto Dealership chain, with several here in central TX. Pretty cool video, but i can't imagine all that dirt being good for that car! Still waiting on the updated time lapse to see how progress is going.
