MotoGP + Formula 1 track. MotoGP is GREAT news, but I'm not a huge fan of Formula 1. I would REALLY, REALLY, REALLY love for the WRC to have a stage here in the States. That would be most excellent.

Listening alone to an F1 car is worth going to see it, but if you drive for a German team you really need to be German to win in it. How far from Rally Mexico are you? As for MotoGP, that has been great. The only rider in the world who can ride a Ducati competitively is now the fastest rider of a Honda. He may have the personality of 3 day old sardines compared to Vally, but he can ride with the best of them. Stoner for world champion, vally runner up would be about right this year.

Just saw this was announced the other day. Looks like the Aussie sport of V8 Supercars is coming to America! After reading this, it has me pretty pumped up!
Apparantly Queensland Premier Anna Bligh even made a trip to Austin. Read about the whole thing HERE!

Tony Cochrane talking Texas.

Tony Cochrane is usually a lot more of a big mouth than what I just saw. V8 Supercars are basically just a more sophisticated version of NASCAR, running fuel injected 5 litre V8's with 6 speed sequential shift gearboxes, bigger brakes and a lot more aero. By then, they will have IRS but they are circuit racers only. I wonder if Marcus Ambrose will do a one off come back. I lost interest in this version of the sport when they went to essentailly a common shell and the only differences were the body shape and engine. I prefer a more production based formula.

I guess i'm going to have to read up on supercar racing & what the diff's are. Is it jusr more rally inspired being tuned for diff tracks rather than the "just go as fast as you can nascar tracks"?

After reading up a good bit (not just wiki!), the only more "sophisticated" thing i could come up with is maybe the drivers! If you've ever listened to those nascar boys talk, you'll know what i mean. The supercars seem to keep more towards the stock appearance of the vehicle, but both are engineering marvels. I find it quite interesting though that only ford & holden are what makes up the super cars. The super cars look to be slower, but i'm sure that just comes with the variations in tracks too. I'll have to watch a supercar race for sure now to get a feel for it. I'm just glad they are bringing something new to this place. They just voted yesterday to approve the city money for it, to free up the state funding. The damn hippies in Austin want to spend millions on bike lanes on roads which bring no revenue in return, yet want to throw out a project that will bring in hundreds of millions a year to central texas. Idiots.

V8 Supercars are rev limited to 7500rpm and run 5 litre engines, so would have less power than NASCAR, but with better handling and brakes on a circuit would be quicker- that's a guess but who knows. The sophistication is in their induction- where they run modern ECU and EFI systems as opposed to carby's. I think their tyre technology may be better also, but it has been a while since I looked at NASCAR specs so I may be out of date. Their aero packages are also better, and I think combined with better brakes and gearing make up for their power deficiency. They still make about 600hp, but these days they run on E85. As for the hippies, Austin sounds a lot like Sydney. Best race to watch is the Bathurst 1000 held in October. The cars have a 95Db limit to keep the greenies happy- about the same noise as a tennis player!
