I went to a club meeting last night and discovered that the local NSW Subie club now welcomes online visitor registration for their trips (after first registering on their site):

Visitors are welcome on a couple of trips on a "get-to-know-you" basis without having to take out membership. This invitation includes all makes and models but for visitors excludes "financial members only" trips such as extended trips and driver development events.
