New! The Subaru Mobile Internet turns your car into a secure WiFi hotspot. Using 3G network infrastructure, unique technology manages data as you travel between cell phone towers, keeping your passengers connected to the Internet.
Anyone got this?

The North American division of Subaru announced today that it is now offering Wi-Fi connectivity for the award-winning 2011 Outback crossover SUV model.

Dubbed Subaru Mobile Internet, it offers connection speeds of 400 kbps to 1.2 mpbs with the ability to link 10 or more devices to the Web at a radius of 150 feet from the car. Subaru Mobile Internet provides users a safe, fully encrypted connection with download speeds averaging 400kbps-1.2mbps. This uninterrupted Wi-Fi capability can be used by the passengers while the Outback is in motion.

Users can surf the web or listen to Internet radio and even stream video. The Wi-Fi connection can be used simultaneously by multiple passengers for their separate devices, including Wi-Fi capable laptop computers, netbooks, smart phones, game controllers, plus the new iPad and iPod Touch models.

The Subaru system is powered by Autonet, the world's first in-car Internet service provider. The system costs $499 to have installed by your dealer :rotfl:, plus a $35 activation fee. A one-year subscription at $29 per month is required and Subaru offers the first three months for free.

Cute, but why would you bother? Ok so it's got a Subi label on it, but any 3G/4G WiFi hotspot will suffice these days. Even your phone...

Mind you the 10-device limit is higher than some, and if each passenger has a phone and a tablet (and maybe there's a laptop in the car too) the DHCP "slots" in the server can get used up quickly. Last year I travelled through Europe with family (buying a SIM in each country) and between 3 of us we had 9 WiFi devices...
