OneSixty's $500 SG Forester

retgw.png

Recently purchased a $500 SG Forester. This and the photos may raise a few questions so i'll answer them so you don't have to ask

Q: What is going to happen with the L-Series? A: Cleaning of the L-Series will be finished and then it will be sold.
Q: Why was it so cheap? A: The owner said the clutch wasn't working, now have found out it's just a missing clutch operating fork. Also won't run on it's own fuel and sounds like only 3 cylinders.
Q: Where is the airbox? A: The owner had taken the airbox off to inspect the clutch.

and it has been washed since the photos were taken

He took the airbox off to inspect the clutch? Did he open the boot to check the radiator as well???

At least it's not as dirty.
Mind you, I guess you've still got to clean the other one up.

Here's another reason it was cheap

New fuel tank time, unless you are super keen

W.the.f is up with that tank?? Did they mix the petrol with dirt?

I don't understand how it doesn't have a clutch fork... Who installs a gearbox or engine without the clutch fork fitted? Rookie mistake if it's actually missing.

My L was a $500 bargain. Turned out it needed an engine rebuild. I hope an expense like this doesn't happen with your purchase!

that's almost as bad a state as the sunroof frame on my SVX!

I like the use of those jack stands ;)

That hi lift in good use. Whats its hooked on? Hitch?

My Dad put some methylated spirits in the tank (aka metho) and it's cleaned it out pretty well, new pump from supercheap auto and new filters. Should have it running this weekend if not sooner!

disconnect the fuel line in the engine bay and flush it through with the new pump and filters... don't want that gunk getting in the FPR or injectors.

Forgot to post that it started. Here's me giving it a few revs without the exhuast. https://youtu.be/JDYREL9hCLw
Got the gearbox out and replaced the broken clutch fork with a new one and replaced some bearing that I forgot the name of, looks like the previous owner replaced the clutch and a few other things.
Gearbox removed:

Gearbox is currently in the car so it should be moving under its own power by this weekend.

Thrust bearing?
(the one that gets worn if you leave your foot on the clutch while not changing gears - if that's still a problem on newer cars)
