OneSixty's $500 SG Forester

retgw.png

Recently purchased a $500 SG Forester. This and the photos may raise a few questions so i'll answer them so you don't have to ask

Q: What is going to happen with the L-Series? A: Cleaning of the L-Series will be finished and then it will be sold.
Q: Why was it so cheap? A: The owner said the clutch wasn't working, now have found out it's just a missing clutch operating fork. Also won't run on it's own fuel and sounds like only 3 cylinders.
Q: Where is the airbox? A: The owner had taken the airbox off to inspect the clutch.

and it has been washed since the photos were taken

I've seen the early model EJ and L series clutch forks crack at the ball pivot, but I've never seen any issues with the later model units - until now...

That's a pretty epic break. I wonder how they managed that!

And what have you done about the fuel tank, second hand replacement?

Cheers

Sounds good. It could also pay to blow the fuel lines out with compressed air. Blow backwards in the direction the fuel usually travels - but have the lines at the tank and the engine disconnected so you're not pushing the crud into the big items ;)

Today (30/08/18) is the day the $500 Foz moved under its own power. It is the fastest car I have been in other than a V12 Jaguar. Its first journey was a short hoon around some backstreets to get the engine hot then an oil and filter change.

I really need to do something with these yellow headlights.

Is the yellow tint on the headlights due to weathering?

You might like to try using 1000 or1500 wet and dry (wet) on them followed by a polish with Brasso and finish off with toothpaste if required. It sometimes brings them up like new. It depends whether the discolouration is on the surface or right through the plastic.

New headlights and tyres. Ready to go over the pits on Wednesday (26/09/18).
Liking the black headlights a lot more than the chrome ones and the front end isn't even on yet.

Never even noticed that there were chrome ones out there!

The Forester was inspected today for registration... and passed! No problems were found. First time offroad in a Subaru, pictures below. I will need to create a Picture Gallery thread for pictures when it gets offroad.

Only problem after going offroad is that the fuel gauge is not reading right and doesn't move. Could be because of the fuel/rust gunk that was in the tank has had an effect on the fuel floaty thing

Now for the modifications!!

Well done for getting it on the road, you've got yourself a bargain

Found a slow fuel leak due to a hose clamp loose (who knows why). This may be the reason the fuel gauge has "stopped" working but I doubt it could have dripped that much out in 4-5 hours to go from a full tank to less than a quarter. Although, maybe under power the fuel is sent towards the back of the tank and puts pressure on the hose making it leak more? Not even sure why there would be fuel in the hose it was dripping from.

Found why the fuel gauge wasn’t working. If you don’t know what this is it is the fuel gauge float that is supposed to be connected to the float arm.

Something big is coming for the $500 Foz soon. Might be very obvious as its probably the first thing anyone does with a offroad Subaru other than tyres.
