Sorry to hear that Carl. I know how you feel though. After having a job i could have kept forever and quitting to move back to the Mid North Coast of NSW where i wanted to be i soon realised that a job wpuld be rather hard to get. Bunnings had 60 jobs going for their new store at Taree and had over 1,100 applications!!!
The workforce of Taree is only around 18,000. The interview process was pretty pathetic, HR gone mad and had to play kiddie games.
Generally i tend to find something and have learnt to do stuff that seems to not have any meaning at the time.
A fellow came to the unit to fit some new verticals for the owner and i had a chat to him and gave him my resume' and asked if he could read it as he was in business and someone might need a worker sometime...blah.blah.
He rang me back the same day and said his mum, the boss, had read it and wanted to see if i could come in to see her and now i at least have a casual job. It's a start.
Keep smiling , enjoy your free time and MAKE something happen.

Well I certainly am enjoying my time off. I do have a lead on a company that might be able to use both my prominent skills, bicycles and machining. Working on that resume as we speak.

The job market seems to be looking a bit better the last week or so, problem is, you've got hundreds of people applying for the same job. Things will work out, hopefully for the better. It's looking pretty grim at my old company and I fear they may not make it. I went in there last week and they had laid off four of the higher-up's ie. the big pay-checks.

Rally. No I didn't get the job with Bunnings. They didn't even consider my retail experience, the interview was pathetic and consisted of looking at a slide and saying what you saw in it. They needed people to be a 'team member'. This is Ok, but most people are 'team members' by nature but it is a rare person that gets on with everyone.
What i meant by my post was that i understand what Carl is feeling as i basically had a job for life up north and now have to struggle away to find something to pay the bills. I'll get there, i always do.
I still have lots of trips to do so I HAVE to get something.
I always approach things with the view that being in an uncomfortable situation forces you to do something about it and often the end result is surprising.

Finally!!! I at least scored an interview !!! I think I'm really a bit over qualified, the position is for a machine operator that puts holes in tent poles, but it's for a very well established local company that has been around for along time Diamond Brand.

I've also got a short term position filling in for someone going on vacation at my favorite bike shop.

Things are looking up!!!

Good one Carl. From what we see on the news here, tents could be in big demand over there. Good luck.
