OK, I'd like to change the intake on the Fozz (SH9 Diesel) to replicate the setup that Toyota used on the 4.0 V6 Prado's.
i.e From the engine into the airbox,
then piped into the inner-guard and pointed backwards towards the drivers door.
this provides a good feed of cold air from the inner-guard, but one that sees little dust and no risk of water being sucked in unless you're wading deep up to the windscreen.

Just wondering if there's any way of changing the front half of the airbox to achieve this.

the rear part has the MAF integrated, so Would like to keep that as-is..

thoughts?

Did you end up doing this?
I'm planning to do something similar on my SF5

No not yet.

The SF5 is easy though,
90mm PVC 90' Bend straight out of the hole in the airbox into the guard

I just did this on my JDM SF5 and so far so good. I used a section of flexible gutter witch pipe and essentially beat it into shape to fit.

Being ribbed pipe it makes a wicked intake noise!

Seems to work great as well. Took the car to the beach and even though there was sand all up in the inner guard none made it into the airbox.

It is a bit ruthless at the moment though and I'll probably swap the GW pipe out for some silicone pipe sections that fit better and don't require duct tape to keep my inner guard in place. Either that or I'll go the whole hog and chuck a proper snorkel on it.
