I have had a bit of a look through the forum and havent been abble to find any information on gearbox oil or rear diff oil for a 2006 xt forrester have no problems but would like to stay close to service recomendations with changing fluids. Im up for the gearbos and diff oil changes has anybody got any recomendations on brands or types Thanks Sorry if this has been coverd elsewhere.

Castrol have their multitrax and syntrax- the latter being synthetic. At about $25/litre, it isn't cheap. Other brands are available but I have not used them. I use Multritrax in the Forrie and Syntrax in the WRX. I forget which diff oil I use as I know the Forrie uses a different oil to the WRX as the WRX has a plated diff. Check the Castrol website or consult the application guide in most auto outlets

If you plan to do the gearbox oil change yourself you will need a Torx T70 bit which is bloody hard to find. None of the common auto shops keep this e.g repco,stupidcheap etc. I had to order mine on ebay from the USA

The T70 is needed for later model 5 speeds. My MY99 5 speed did not have it, but the MY04 does. You can order them through auto accessory stores- they (AutoPro) got mine from T&E Tools in Sydney- but if it is not part of a stock order- in other words you cannot wait up to a month- they will charge freight- which is fair enough

Just letting everyone know if having trouble finding a T70 Bit they can also be found on ebay bye searching for T70
