This problem I am having started after I high-centered on a mound that in retrospect was way too big for me to be trying to drive over. I am pretty sure that it is what caused the problem.

Anyway, the problem I am having is that when I put my Forester (AT) into reverse, sometimes I get a really loud bang. It doesn't happen all the time but I notice it more often when the car isn't at a complete idle when I change to reverse. I never get a the bang when I switch back to drive.

I thought that this might be a problem the engine mounts on one side but I just checked and they don't seem to be broken. I haven't had any other noises or driving problems just this noise.

Any ideas on what could be causing the load bang?

Have you checked the tranny mount?

I had checked it but just checked again a little more closely. The big square rubber dampers are sheared but they the whole thing is still sitting properly which is why I missed it initially. Thanks!

By the way, where did you get that installation image?
