Hey all: finally joined! been lurking for quite awhile. Started a thread for my 97 OB wagon to keep track of what I do to this car. Bought in July 2015 with approx 137k for $1200. Pretty clean with little rust. Coolant overflow smells of combustion gas, so will be doing the head gaskets and timing belt etc before winter. Had massive torque bind due to the previous owner installing 1 new tire with the other 3 about bald. Anyway on to the fun stuff: ordered a roof basket and installed it using 2 extra factory cross bars bought off of craigslist(not pictured with extra bars yet): also my old front light bar/Hella 1000's/antenna mount from my old Legacy GT: You can see the General Grabber AT2's in the pic-215/75/15, and I ordered 2"...
Hey guys, Thought I would start off a journal before I get started hitting the dirt. Bought my 09 Forester at the end of 2012, the original owner had added some 18' chrome rims with stupidly low profile tyres, along with some chrome pillar covers... Needless to say, that all lasted a week before it got removed and the wheels painted and 245/45 tyres put on. I hadn't even considered getting the car off road, and my first major mod was some coilovers to get her low. 2 years later with my baby and toddler getting older I decided to bring the foz back to stock height for some beach work and camping with the kids. After removing the coilovers I has started stockpiling some parts to get my foz ready for her first run on the sand...
G'day all, I thOught I'd start a build thread just to just to prevent my progress posts from stinking up the forum. For those that dont know I picked up a 2Oo7 xs forester in Sydney and have driven it back to Perth, picking up and fitting eBay gold along the way. I've arrived home to my building site of a home (floor sanding and painting) and can't even see, let alone repair my PC so you will have to wait for pictures. So far in the 2 weeks since we met I've added a bullbar, sump guard, diff guard, UHF, GPS, engle, rooftop tent, awning and strutbrace. Next on the list are headers, 1" blocks, rear sway bar/links/disconnects, driving lights, ATs, hitch, real low range, stereo gear and extra 12V sockets. I'd also like to install...
Everyone is doing it, so here is mine. Bought my 94 liberty 12th hand or so. First thing I did was throw some old mean mother lights that were hanging about in mums shed. Then there was the tablet dash install, which didn't last long. Didn't have GPS. And the audio constantly buzzed Fitted 2 rear struts from an 02 forry, it added a little lift but mostly is stopped the saggy bum syndrome the libs seem to suffer And that's about if so far, few other things needed replacing but nothing major
yeah, i use my car for everything. i've used it for several rally crosses, took it to a few off road parks, drive about 50 miles a day, sleep in the back while camping, whatever. i use subaruoutback.org almost every day but my personal thread is a bit long and pointless. im bored so ill make an informative thread that's short and to the point. here's what i started with: then i added a few things: 16x6.5" wrx wheels 235/70/r16 cooper discoverer at3 tires 25mm wheel spacers primitive strut spacers and rear subframe spacers primitive skid plates (3) muffler delete zip ties D ring on stock eyelet thing not-so "hidden hitch" gorilla mud flaps random paint and stickers stock fender flares with machine screws for reinforcement hood...
Started a thread on ozfoz but thought I'd pop in here whilst I have a look around for mod ideas. Went down to yeagarup for easter and out to wilbinga today and it has sparked up my interest in beach and dune driving (was boring in my old 4wd as it was too easy) now it's a challenge so looking at probably an easy 1" lift and 235/65/17's Started off in my ownership at the start of the year with 108,000km and a fresh timing belt service, now has the following mods; Norm Butler custom exhaust 3 port boost controller Tuned at all star garage (~140kw atw and ~350nm) 19mm Rear sway bar Anti lift bushes in the front end LED globes internal and led park, stop/tail & reverse Tint Basic sound deadener STI front lip Apple airplay Have a few...
Gidday Folks Guess I should start a journal. Seems a goodly system of keeping this stuff organised ... :poke: . Anyway, I have fitted the OEM roof bars and Rola basket to Roo2 in the last couple of days. Took it for a spin into town today on the Nepean Highway. From about 70 km/h, it started to purr. By about 80 km/h, the purr had become a more of a roar ... :( :(. This will drive me NUTS, in short order ... Fortunately, it is my intention to fit the basket to the lid on my rebuilt trailer, where it should be out of the wind, and the noise should be well behind me .... Will keep you posted about all this ... :iconwink: ;) :raspberry:
Hey all, I'm pretty new to this site... I started a thread on SubaruForester.org, but this site better suites my vehicle.. I picked up this pretty mint 99 Forester S 6 months ago from some old man. It had 104,000 miles on the clock and new head gasket, timing belt and brakes already done. A couple weeks into ownership I realized that the front driver's side CV boot was ripped and caused the axle to seize into the hub. Replacing that was a bit pricey, but she's been a pretty reliable ride besides that. I put some General Grabber AT2's 215/65/16 on and some knock off wheels. The tires are really close to the strut housing, but there isn't any rubbing issues. Also switched out the plastic mud flaps with some Rally Armor ones.
Way back when I was 21 (10+ years now) I did a bit of offroading in a 96 Pathfinder, V6. petrol prices started to bite hard so the Pathfinder made way for a 97 NA Forester was deemed good enough for the odd bush track, and lugging around my camping gear. I stumbled accros an article in Hot4's magazine (I think) on the GTRydaz National Meet, this was the beginning of the end for ever owning an unmodified car again.. So the NA made way for a stock as a rock 98 GT (the day I sold the NA) The GT firstly went up about 20mm on some HD Pedders springs, got some more power from a TD04, Exhaust, tune and all the other parts we could throw at it, Then it went down to a sensible road height. (just before I sold it) Along the way I got...
August 2013 - Brisbane to Albury & return For some time now, we have been preparing Scooby2 for road trips. She is a great car for us to travel in, and we enjoy the freedom and adventure of exploring our beautiful country. We set off on our road trip down south with no set plan. Just the best way to travel, and a great way to leave the worries of the world behind. It rained every day of the 10 we were away, but the green vistas that we saw were breathtaking, and the rain really didn't hinder our trip. I can only explain it like this. For many years on trips up and down both the coast and inland routes, it is usually a brown, dry and uneventful trip. I have never seen so much water just laying in the paddocks. When we returned...

Hi there everyone. This is a little thread about my progress of turning my 2005 XT into a softroader that i can take out and have a little fun in. Firstly, let me tell you a bit about me. I'm not very good with cars, I'm more of a Bicycle man, but i'm willing to give anything a go, if i can put it back together and more than happy to get as much infro from people with more experience. If I'm not keen on doing anything, I'm more than happy to take it to a trusted mechanic and pay for their expertise. Now, the new love. She's a late 2005 Forester XT. She's done 60,000kms, stock when i bought her. Kept in really good condition, with nothing i can really see wrong with her. That's about it about her. This pic was taken after I'd...
So I picked up a SG5 XT Luxury a few weeks ago as a replacement for my H6 Liberty. It was a 1 very pedantic owner vehicle, low km's (128,000km) and with impeccable service history. Longest between services was about 12,400km. Timing belt was done early at 88,000km with water pump. First mod, ECU relocated to the glovebox. New and old. Plans for the short term are to just enjoy it. It's such a nice car. Could do with some decent seats, I'm used to the body hugging GT-B seats of the Liberty. The leather XT seats are very slidey. It should have all the power an offroader needs out of the box and I have no plans to change it. Love the quiet exhaust. Key to any future mods will be to maintain the stock gearing as much as...
Hi all. Introducing Monsterwagon 2.0 as she currently sits. I will write up a massive build thread at some point soon - I have a heap of photos from along the way. But basically, I wrecked the previous Monsterwagon as the body was stuffed. Purchased another wagon of the exact same model (white MPFI touring wagon) in Feb 2014. This one already came with a bodgy 2" lift, 14" muddies, EJ22 with adaptor plate setup to 5speed. Generally the mechanicals were in terrible condition, and the body was "okay" but had particularly bad rust in one area. Over the last 2-years I've made a few changes. I'll include a heap of details. Here is a brief summary. At this point I have the car fully driving and have literally just had it dyno tuned...
Just finished a 2800km road trip from Kalgoorlie to Dwellingup, Margaret River, Albany, Hyden and back to Kal. Car went well averaged 10km/l - great considering 4 adults and a full luggage rack. Will submit photo's once I figure which bloody app to download to get Windows 10 to resize photo's with!! (W10 is the crappest platform I've ever worked - so sorry I ever changed!) Despite W10 - we had an awesome trip.
Hey all, this is my build journal/adventure journal for my MULTIBARU! THE REASON I've played with subarus as buggys and offroaders but never got serious until i lent my last impreza buggy to a mate. When I got it back it had been towed by the c pillar (bent), overheated, iron sand in the air intake and one tyre completely shredded...completely shredded.. :censored: So it was only a matter of time until my next subaru. And after convincing the girlfriend the 93 BG5 TS-R was a good buy as a work and back car and spending undisclosed amounts of money on the timing belt and heads being rebuilt after the inevitable failure of the headgaskets etc etc Its finally time to put it all together so I thought I would indulge you fine persons...
Hey guys thought i'd start my own build thread. I'll start from the beginning. I was scanning craigslist for a new project car, and i came across this subaru, the ad said that the car needed a clutch and was unmoveable. It looked decent from the pictures and i went to check it out, it looked very nice inside and out (with the exception of the rear quarter panels of course). 400$ and it was mine to take home, got it loaded up and dropped off at my place. I bought the car around 4pm, and had the engine out by around 7pm, i should mention this is my first subaru, i have no experience with subarus lol. So my original plan was to just throw a clutch and flywheel in the car and drive it off, but i decided to take the timing belt...
So I've finally decided on a theme for my Foz - the Zombie Edition. I know it's nothing super original, everyone does it to their trucks, but I think mines gonna be unique because not only is it a Foz, but I plan on heavily modifying it (don't let the fact that the bank still owns it stop you from chopping it up, I always say). On my to-do list are: CREE Led light bar(s) Snorkel/Diff Breather (not sure how I'd snorkel the exhaust and make it look good) Fender Flares More skid plates Lift Larger Tires, Smaller Rims Steel bumper that's pretty much nonexistent in front of the tires Obligatory Zombie Vehicle markings But first... I'm gonna mount this grille guard I pulled off a Suzuki. 20151103_130324 by Jim Ferrigno, on Flickr...
Long term reader of the forum but have never really got around to posting anything on my Current Subaru Project. Well I thought I better start again as it's like a new car since the last journal (here: https://www.offroadsubarus.com/showthread.php?t=2887 - RB). Modifications have been severe! :lildevil: Damage has been extreme :surprised: Repairs have been expensive and tiresome  After all she and I have been through over the past 3 years and 100+k km.
